White Rose / Ring-a-Week #18

When I first ordered the resin flowers, this was the initial design that I had in mind. The idea was to play with the juxtaposition between the distressed surface of the band and the whiteness and delicacy of the flower.

First, I made a fused sterling silver ring. I soldered a piece of wire to attach the rose and a tube for the setting of the stone.

I planned to set either a rose-cut faceted iolite or a rhodolite garnet. None of these options seemed to work and after having a little stonesetting drama, I ended up setting a 3mm pink tourmaline cabochon.

The ring was oxidized to highlight the texture of the fused band and finished with a coarse mini fiber wheel.

Despite the problems with the stonesetting, it turned out exactly as I wanted it….I’m tempted to keep this for myself!
