Ingredients for a fun afternoon

First finishing these earrings, made for a dear friend and fellow jeweler. This is another version of the branch earrings, where silver is lightly oxidized and the emeralds are substituted by apatite stones. Afternoon light is not ideal for taking pictures but I had to take this quick photo and then head to the post office right before closing time. As a result, the color of the apatite is not accurate, it’s more of a blue/green in person, than this pale green that appears in the photo.

crochet

Second, crocheting a circular pattern in shades of blue, inspired by this photo. I would like to incorporate it in a brooch or pendant design that I have in mind, still need to think about all the parameters of the design.

banana cake

Next comes baking. If you happen to have over-ripe bananas don’t throw them away. This banana cake recipe is quick, easy and I’m sure that you’ll enjoy it. The only change I made was using walnuts instead of pecans because it’s easier to find walnuts around here.

Last, watercolor fun! Water, Paper, Paint by Heather Smith Jones is just what I needed to get to know this medium better. This time I decided to go by the book and not try to experiment before I even learn about the technique. So I spent some time painting circles (wet into wet technique) and squares (wet onto dry technique). These are the first two projects from the book but there are a lot more and I’m looking forward to trying them. If you’d like to learn more about Heather and her work, I recommend reading her blog. I love her relaxed writing style and her artwork!

Thanks for reading!
