First brooches and samples

Since it’s not possible for me to make one “real” brooch each day for Brooch-a-Day, I thought I could post samples, work in progress, sketches and a few actual brooches every now and then.

I’ve started with these five samples because I think they could make interesting brooches. They were made having four specific greek words in mind and the materials available were paper, fabric, threads, card stock , wire, acrylic paints and aluminum.

The next brooch, a stickpin actually, is also my first entry for Brooch-a-Week.

For a while now I have been noticing paper clips as I was walking outside. First I thought it was funny, then I started thinking about it. Why did I keep seeing them and what’s so interesting about these mundane everyday objects?

The one thing I like is their simple and functional design. Also the greek word for paper clips means something “to hold and connect”, which is another interesting way of seeing it.
This morning I was out running. I found a hair clip and then I remembered the paper clips all over again. I got back home and made this stickpin in ten minutes.

I wear it as I’m writing right now and I love it! Of course this idea is open to many variations and I’m thinking of exploring it a bit more.

Thanks for reading!
