Weaving 101

I’m constantly fascinated by textile techniques and how they can be translated or incorporated into the jewelry making process. I guess this is one of those things that date back into my childhood. Take weaving for example, I still remember my grandmother’s loom, which looked gigantic through my eyes! She used it to make rugs, bags and all sorts of garments.

So the other day, I thought I’d try to do some weaving of my own and made this simplest form of a loom, which actually works really well. For detailed instructions look over here.

This is the second sample piece that I started. I’m not sure what am I supposed to do with all the loose ends but I hope that I’ll find a solution!

Besides weaving, I practiced some freeform embroidery based on my botanical drawings. I would like to make some more samples and perhaps set them into metal frames. I’ll have to think about it more…

Last, a sample of the tunisian crochet single stitch. I wanted to try tunisian crochet for a while now. I’m not sure where this will fit with all the rest but we’ll figure it out along the way!
