A last minute change of plans gave me the chance to have an unexpected play time in the studio and of course I could’t be happier!
I wanted to play with teardrop stones and I also wanted to make something with amethyst, which is February’s birthstone. After a while of playing around and pondering, things led me into making a ring.
I decided to make it adjustable and to complement the deep color of the stone with gold. So I melted a portion of 14t yellow gold, to create a small pebble and soldered it on the other end of the ring shank.
I rarely have the chance to work with gold and I ‘m mostly drawn to alternative materials. But the wonderful properties of this metal, the way it melts and its soft luster fascinated me once again.
Since making this ring for February, I will try to make one piece of jewelry with each month’s birthstone.
It’s fun to challenge yourself creatively, don’t you think?
