RAW52 #16 “Star anise”

For this week’s Ring-a-Week, I used a sterling silver star anise, which was cast from a previous metal clay piece and combined it with a fused sterling silver band.

In the final step, I oxidized everything to bring up the rich texture.
The ring ended up having an organic feel, which was what I was going for in the first place.

My relationship with star anise started a couple of years ago at Istanbul’s spice market, where I bought a small quantity for a friend and myself. I used the spice twice last year, to make some ephemeral rings for Ring-a-Day.

Then, a few weeks ago, I molded it in polymer clay. After that, I was ready to make this intriguing shape in silver metal clay.
