On the joy of creating

No matter how busy things get, there’s this part of me that keeps reminding me why I got into making things in the first place.

It’s because of the pure joy of being able to make something from scratch with your own set of two hands, to conceive an idea, experiment on it and transform it into an object with beautiful, tactile qualities. And if this object happens to be wearable, that’s even better, though this is not a prerequisite.

Every maker is familiar with this urge that pushes you to leave everything behind, no matter how important or unimportant it is, and just pursue an idea that struck you, or make whatever you feel like at the moment.

This is what happened today and I’m very happy that I stopped everything else just to play with this idea for an earring, which combines my love for crochet and metal.

The crocheted part in deep blue is based on a old piece of lace that was given to me. After crocheting it, it was carefully sewn on the bronze metal frame of the earring.

I hope that at some point I will be able to make a complete collection, which will combine crochet, knitting and metalwork. For now I’m playing with ideas and occasionally I make a few pieces, whenever it’s possible.

Now if only I could find the time to finish that second earring!
