On the appeal of gold

How can a tiny dot of gold be so seductive? A recent BBC documentary, called “The History of Art in Three Colors”, suggested that one of the reasons might be that gold reminds us of the color of the sun.

This was my first time working with gold in a form other than foil and I just wanted to make something simple and beautiful. I used a small amount of 14kt recycled yellow gold, melted it and made a tiny “gold pebble”, which was then soldered on a sterling silver band.

The color of the gold makes a wonderful contrast with the whiteness of the silver. I keep wearing this ring ever since I made it!
