New necklaces and custom pieces

I recently realized that I don’t make enough long necklaces, though I love wearing them. So I decided to finish a necklace that I started long ago, when I was thinking what I should do with a big hill tribe silver fish bead that I had.

It took me a while to decide what elements to combine and here’s what I finally came up with:

It’s a combination of red and white coral beads, a long fish bead and a cord that I braided using 7 strands of embroidery thread. To finish the cord, I fabricated the end caps out of silver sheet, tubing and wire.

Though I can’t make another one since this was the only fish bead that I had, I like the versatility of the design. I’m thinking of replacing the fish with different metal elements and try new combinations of cord and beads.

The second pendant, a metal spool, was custom made and its length is adjustable. It’s made with copper tubing and sterling silver and then – for the fun part – I wrapped a piece of brown thread around the core of the bead.
