This earring is the newest addition to my “Imaginary Botanicals” collection, in which I recreate organic forms through memory and imagery.
I enjoy making variations on this theme and the Earring-a-Day Challenge provides the perfect context to keep exploring.
The “pods” were initially hand sculpted in wax and then cast in brass. The brass base of the earring was created thought a combination of fabrication techniques and a sterling silver earwire was soldered. You can see this version of the earring in the photo below.
Finally, the earring was silver plated, an eucalyptus seedpod was added inside the smaller pod and the crocheted work was sewn inside the other pod. The eucalyptus seedpod is sealed with clear resin.
