I usually start making felted pieces on late autumn and during the winter season. But I had an order for a felted necklace and so I started a little earlier. The weather this weekend was gray and rainy, perfect for felting by the sink and looking at the rain!
I love the process of transforming a wool roving into felt, either with a needle or by using the wet felting technique. The wool is so soft and the color variety is endless. There’s also the option of making your own colors with natural dyeing, although I haven’t tried that yet.
I usually combine the tactile and visual qualities of the wool with lightly oxidized sterling silver. This time, the order called for a necklace made only with felt and fibers in grey/black.
First, I made the beads with the wet felting technique.
Next, I made the flowers, combining needle felting and wet felting.
…..and this is how the necklace turned out!
