I remember a friend once told me, as she was watching me making a pair of earrings for her, that it’s probably not such a good idea to show people how the metal looks during the fabrication process. She was apparently surprised -not in a good way!- by all the oxidation and the effect of fire on silver, before it’s being pickled and cleaned.
Me on the other hand, I find this whole transformation quite amazing and I keep posting process pictures, despite my friend’s advice!
This is a custom-made pendant for my wonderful representative in Sweden, Gianna Karlsson of Mesogeios Objects. The names of her sons were stamped on silver tags, which were then soldered on the heart. Since both boys were born in February, we decided to add amethyst, which is the birthstone for February.
