Color and texture

pendants

Color and texture are two aspects of design that I like to pay particular attention to. Sometimes I have to spend much time trying to come up with an appealing combination, some other times everything seems to flow naturally.

Here are a few recent pieces where color and texture are the main focus.

The pendants, pictured above, are made using some of my favorite gemstones, a faceted amethyst and amazonite and a kyanite.Texture is introduced by adding fibers, such as lace, ric-rac ribbon, embroidery thread and also a few sterling silver metal beads. The circle pendant on the left is made with brass and threads of various colors.

These fused rings become more interesting when worn together. The reason I think is the color play and the surface treatment of the metal. All three rings are sterling silver. What differs is the finish: one is oxidized, the other is gold plated and I added a new band, which is plated with pink gold.

The same stands for these two rings, the soft colors of the flower and the gemstones are in contrast with the rough surface of the bands.

While experimenting with the look of pink gold, I thought I could try it on this pearl ring as well. I tend to think that yellow gold would probably be more successful, combined with the black pearl.

One of my favorite color combinations is gold and aqua blue and this is why I wanted to have these silver chalcedony earrings gold plated.

Again, color is dominant on these hot pink heart earrings. Of course, in this case, shape is equally important.

Notice how dramatic the classic combination of black and white appears to be. Also, the lava beads add an interesting texture. These elements will all come together in a couple pairs of earrings that I have in mind and hope that I will make tomorrow.
