New necklaces and custom pieces

I recently realized that I don’t make enough long necklaces, though I love wearing them. So I decided to finish a necklace that I started long ago, when I was thinking what I should do with a big hill tribe silver fish bead that I had.

It took me a while to decide what elements to combine and here’s what I finally came up with:

necklace

It’s a combination of red and white coral beads, a long fish bead and a cord that I braided using 7 strands of embroidery thread. To finish the cord, I fabricated the end caps out of silver sheet, tubing and wire.

Though I can’t make another one since this was the only fish bead that I had, I like the versatility of the design. I’m thinking of replacing the fish with different metal elements and try new combinations of cord and beads.

The second pendant, a metal spool, was custom made and its length is adjustable. It’s made with copper tubing and sterling silver and then – for the fun part – I wrapped a piece of brown thread around the core of the bead.

A few more examples of custom work.

First, I made these sketches for a small cat pendant:

The chosen design was fabricated in sterling silver:

….and finished with waxed linen cord. I like how this one turned out and I will probably include it in my wholesale line.
